$77,500 Settlement for Failure to Yield at Stop Sign

April 2026

Attorney Alan Fassonaki and the team at Fassonaki Law Firm, P.C. secured a $77,500 settlement for a client injured in a California car accident caused by a driver who failed to stop at a stop sign in Woodland Hills, California.

Facts of the Case

Our client was traveling as a seat-belted driver through an intersection in Woodland Hills, California. While passing through the intersection, she was suddenly and unexpectedly struck on the passenger side of her vehicle by another driver who failed to stop at a stop sign. Her vehicle was declared a total loss as a result of the crash and she was injured.
Legal Strategy: Establishing Driver Negligence and Liability
This case was pursued under California negligence and motor vehicle law. Under California law, all drivers have a legal duty of care to operate their vehicles in a reasonably safe manner with consideration for the safety of others on the road.
Our legal strategy focused on proving that the at-fault driver:

  • Failed to stop at a stop sign at the entrance to an intersection, in direct violation of Cal. Veh. Code § 22450(a)
  • Operated their vehicle in a dangerous and reckless manner
  • Breached their duty of care owed to our client under California law, directly causing the collision and our client's resulting injuries

Under Cal. Veh. Code § 22450(a), the driver of any vehicle approaching a stop sign at the entrance to, or within, an intersection must stop at a limit line if marked, or before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection. If there is no limit line or crosswalk, the driver must stop at the entrance to the intersecting roadway. The at-fault driver's failure to comply with this requirement was the direct cause of this collision. The opposing insurer accepted liability for this loss.

Settlement Terms

The case was resolved for a $77,500 settlement. This recovery compensated our client for her bodily injuries, pain and suffering, vehicle total loss, and all economic and non-economic damages resulting from the at-fault driver's negligent conduct.
