Premises Liability Settlement
September 2019
My client, a residential-tenant, was injured due to the landlord's negligence in failing to follow building safety codes when making improvements to his rental property. The incident occurred when my client was walking home and tripped and fell on the entryway walkway due to a dangerous condition that had been created by the landlord.
As a result of the accident, my client sustained injuries that required medical attention and caused her to incur medical expenses. She also experienced pain and suffering and emotional distress as a result of her injuries.
The landlord breached their duty of care by failing to maintain a safe and hazard-free living environment. The landlord had failed to follow building safety codes when making improvements to the rental property, which had created the dangerous condition that caused my client's injuries.
After careful consideration of the evidence and arguments presented by both parties, we were able to resolve the case. My client received compensation for her medical expenses, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
This case serves as a reminder to landlords that they have a legal obligation to provide their tenants with a safe living environment, and that failure to do so can result in serious consequences. Tenants who have been injured due to a landlord's negligence should not hesitate to seek legal counsel.
